I cannot stress this enough, if you choose to do anything that is NOT a part of your daily agenda you risk being permanently removed from the computer and possible issuance of a Failure grade along with unsatisfactory in work habits and cooperation!!!!!!! In many cases this involves a violation of the school district acceptable use policy along with the class appropriate use policy. See me for more information if you are confused or do not understand.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7	Dec. 14- Before you begin anything else on this agenda please complete this class form here. You will need to have all of your logos in the logo folder on your desktop and I will take a look at them to give you the points you have earned. Also please invite me to your e-portfolio as a collaborator again. This time use the email address kas6415@mymail.lausd.net If you successfully and correctly invite me you will earn 50 points, otherwise you will get a 0. You will need to continue working on uploading your documents to google docs and putting them into your e-portfolio. Tomorrow you will invite me to your documents again, but use the mymail address instead. Also after completing the form please open your kerpoof movie in a new tab on your browser window.
	Dec. 15- Continue with your e-portfolio organization. I will demonstrate how to set up your pages. Also we will clean up your contact list for your email account. Be sure to log into your email right away. Please make sure you show me your logos in order to receive credit. If you are finished with everything, see me so that you may get a headstart on your photography projects. 	Dec. 16- Continue work on your e-portfolio organization. We will cover how to set up your pages and insert your logos onto the appropriate pages. Also we will cover how to correctly share your google docs with me.
	Dec. 17- Continue work on organizing your e-portfolios. Today you need to set up your table of contents and be sure to embed your digital story from photopeach into the digital story "Summer" page. Also I would like for you to create a logo for the Main Menu.
	Dec. 18- Today you may play one of the following games: Planet Green Game Sim Sweat Shop Type Racer Photo Munchrs Free Poverty Snowflake Maker You can also play around with Google Earth and/or Google Sketchup

Be sure to follow these tips when creating your electronic portfolios:

1. Be sure you have it organized so that anybody viewing it would understand what you are showing
2. It must include all of your work in this class for the year, except where noted.
3. Site should be named First Name Last Name Electronic Portfolio or First Initial Last Name underscore E-Portfolio (John Doe Electronic Portfolio or
JDoe_E-Portfolio)
4. Category is Educational and Description is Class Electronic Portfolio
5. Your electronic portfolio logo must be your avatar
6. You must include information about each assignment, either by your own reflections or by including all appropriate parts of each assignment

Class description and rules for this term:

Technology Class Grading and Regulations

The purpose of this section is to inform you of my class grading policies and procedures. Your child’s grade is based on the following format: total points earned per assignment divided by total points possible for all assignments. All classwork/homework assignments are graded on a two-scale rubric. A 100 constitutes full credit (Assignment turned in on time and 100% complete). A zero for no credit means that some combination of the above criteria has not been met. No late work is accepted unless previously arranged and discussed with me. Your child is responsible for completing any work missed due to an absence. All quizzes and class projects are graded based upon the following scale unless otherwise noted: 90%-100%= A, 80%-89%= B, 70%-79%= C, 60%-69%= D, and 0%-59%= F. In most cases class projects assigned will be accompanied with an assignment description and/or checklist so that the grading criteria are clearly defined. Assignment pages can be found here. Again, your child’s grade in class will be calculated based upon the format of points attained/points possible. The points are a cumulative addition of classwork/homework, quizzes, and projects. Your child is required to maintain a class electronic portfolio

It should contain virtually every assignment given. Periodically your child will be given class time to upload assignments to and organize their portfolio. Your child is also expected to remain in compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy, “AUP,” regarding the use of the Internet and computers on campus. If your child violates any portion of this depending upon the violation, they may be subject to removal from computer class and/or receive an F for their grade. I strongly encourage you to discuss all of the above class policies with your child. A list of class rules is located below.

Class Rules:

In order to ensure that every student has the best opportunity to learn and intellectually grow in computer class you will be required to adhere to following rule set:

1. Stay in the area to which you have been given access or rights (e.g. folders, directories, account) at all times. Your account should contain material created only by you for work being done for school projects only.

2. Do not bring to school any computer storage device, software files, program, or application without prior permission from your computer teacher. Unauthorized storage devices will be confiscated from student and turned in to the Dean’s office, and only returned to your parent(s) at school.

3. Defacing or alteration of hardware or software is not allowed (e.g. switching keys on keyboard, moving keyboards, re-positioning wires, changing icons, changing backgrounds, changing screen savers, changing or adding software/files, etc.)

4. Students may have access to the Internet for the purposes of research and collaborative work only. It is illegal to distribute information which violates or infringes upon the rights of any other person; which distributes any defamatory, inappropriate, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, racially offensive, illegal material, advertisements, solicitations, political lobbying, or any information which encourages the use of controlled substances; or, which uses the system for the purpose of inciting crime. Students may not seek information in relation to any of the above or any other unlawful activity using school computer systems. Furthermore, you are not permitted to access any Internet web sites that are not related to the class assignment you are working on. You are not permitted to look for music, use “dashboard,” or any other program that is not a part of the class assignment.

5. It is not permissible to engage in chat rooms or attempt to access anything that is not approved by the teacher. Playing Internet games are only permitted with the teacher’s approval/authorization and they shall only be educationally relevant.

Please note all of the above also constitute a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy “AUP.”

In addition to the above rule set, if during the course of class you decide to do anything that is not a part of our class routine, be disruptive, or you refuse to be a positive part of the sanctity of our class you will be immediately removed from the computer for any length of time up to and including the remainder of the semester. Your daily agenda clearly spells out what is deemed appropriate and you are expected to write and follow this agenda every day.

Penalties for any of the above listed items could include one or more of the following:

1) Removal from computer systems in a specific room/lab or entire school.
2) Possible grade of F in class and/or Unsatisfactory in cooperation.
3) Campus Beautification or other disciplinary action (i.e. detention, phone call to parents, letter to parents)
4) Possible removal from class.
5) If possible suspension from school
6) Parents and/or guardian will be held responsible for the damaged parts and/or labor to fix them
7) If necessary referral to the school police.

News:

January 30, 2009- Update class has been approved and eligible/interested students are welcome to provide their name to me as soon as possible so that I may enroll you in class. Be sure to get parent approval. I will be sending home a permission form as well. Be sure to complete the survey below and if your parents have any questions feel free to give them my email address or click on the class description link below.

June 23, 2008- I am planning on teaching a class next year that will be in a hybrid (40% Face to Face and 60% online). The class will be during a "Zero Period" which means we will meet before school starts a couple of times a week. You will earn full semester credits for the class should you choose to apply. In this class we will create an online interactive school magazine. More details on the class can be found here. If you are seriously interested in this new hybrid class see me for more information and you will need to take a survey located here.

Set up production groups, assign roles within groups, begin step one of door scene (Introduction to Visual Storytelling)
Questions to consider:
• Did the ﬁlm communicate the script?
• Did it communicate the rising tension and relief?
• What could you shoot differently?
• What would make your ﬁlm more understandable?
• What would give your ﬁlm more emotional impact?

Watch second shooting of door scene, answer questions for Step Four. Door Scene Step Five (Editing The Final Cut) questions to consider:

• How does the use of transitions affect the mood, perception of time and
dramatic intent of your ﬁlm?
• Does the music you are using enhance the overall story of your ﬁlm?
• Does the effect you are using distract from the mood or tone of your ﬁlm?

One you have edited your scene:

• Does the ﬁnal version conform to the original assignment parameters, time
limitations, special requirements, etc.?
• Did you address your peers’ suggestions from the rough edit? Is your ﬁlm
better? Why or why not?
• How does the addition of things like music, transitions and effects help tell your
story?

Script Development

The Treatment:
A detailed summary of a ﬁlm story. Often used to sell a project before the script is written.
Challenge:
Based on the subject matter and the parameters your class has established, develop project
ideas and compose a simple one-page document that will act as a guide for developing the
story into a script. This treatment describes what you intend to do and why. Your scene must be
developed so it stands alone, with a set-up, tension development (conﬂict/crisis) and resolution.
Things to Think About:
• What characters are in the scene? What do they say? How do they
communicate?
• How will this scene deepen the audience’s understanding of the characters and
their interpersonal relationships?
• How will the audience feel the emotion you intend?
• Does the scene make sense, given what has preceded it?
• If it is an adaptation, does your scene alter the original story more than it
should?
• What setting have you chosen to illustrate this storyline or concept?

Set up google docs access for questions, treatments, and scripts. Watch parts of Monsters Inc. and Raiders of the Lost Ark, discuss different shots, cover storyboarding techniques, begin step two of door scene (storyboarding the scene). Meet in production teams to discuss and pitch ideas of which storyboard will be selected or individual elements of storyboards. You must pitch your creative choices

Continue work on your editing, treatments, and if you have been given approval from me begin work on your script. Your treatment and script are not considered complete unless and until you have made me a collaborator on them and I will provide you with specific comments on those documents

Today you must finish your final edit of the door scene and answer the post edit questions

Create and title a word processing document last name, first initial and Door Scene Step Two. Answer the following question and be sure to invite me as a collaborator if you have a google account.

What was the criteria you and your group agreed upon in choosing the storyboard or elements of more than one storyboard? You may discuss this with your groups members. Each member must complete a document in order to receive credit

Door Scene step three (Interpretting Storyboard to Film)
Film storyboards, analyze accuracy of filmed product based upon intent on storyboard

On another document titled Last name, first inital Door Scene Step Three, answer the following questions:
• How closely does the ﬁlm match the storyboard?
• What did the storyboard artist originally intend?
• What misinterpretations, miscommunications and discrepancies arose?
• What would have made the storyboard clearer?
• What criteria will you adhere to the next time you do this?
• What did the group learn?

The Door Scene Step Four
(Re-shooting and Assembling An Edit)
answer the following questions:
• Do the group members feel the final shoot told the story?
• Was the story clear? Why or why not?
• Were there any suggestions?

Last day to complete projects for grading. Keep your eyes open for your films to be showcased on our Film Festival page. Excellent work by all of you and now you know how to do the following: Write a treatment Write a properly formatted script Storyboard your script Set up a shoot schedule Film your story, utilizing many different shots Upload your film to a computer Edit your film on the computer I look forward to making more films with those of you that will be with me in May and for next school year. If you do not get one or are absent be sure to see me to get your DVD of our projects.

WebQuest- My History

INTRODUCTION

We are all unique in not only our appearance, but also our cultural background. That is one of the best things about this country is that we all live together and can share our own unique backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs with each other in many ways. Since very few people in this country are originally from here, i.e. Native American/American Indian, most of us come from another part of the world. This is the basis for your assignment.

TASK

Your task is to use the Internet and as many family resources, as possible, to find the following information:
1. Name and location of your country of origin
2. Main Economic Activities/Industry
3. Political Structure/Government type, and include the names of the current leaders
4. 3-5 Unique Cultural Traits (Be sure they are different than the US) this can include holidays and festivals
5. The flag (Include the meaning of the symbols and/or colors)
6. Facts such as:
a) Population
b) Life expectancy
c) Size (Geographical)
d) Standard of Living also known as Gross Domestic Product-Per Capita
e) Main geographic features
f) Important historical, athletic, and entertainment figures

7. Include information about your family history/background (Any information)
8. Create a collage of pictures showing a visual representation of your country (A good choice is to choose a picture for each answer above)
9. You will present your assignment to the class

You will compile all the above information and create a well organized and highly detailed wiki of your findings/research. You may use pictures, flash animations, or photoshop for your visual component. You may also use inspiration and inspire data, where appropriate to show additional visual information. For example, you can use inspire data to show the changes in your country's population over a specific time period. I am looking for you to demonstrate your research skills in conjunction with your technology skills by using different applications to showcase your information on the wiki. You must invite me as an administrator for your wiki so that I can contribute as well as provide links to specific sites to aide you with your assignment.

Note: If you are able to trace your roots from more than one country, you may choose whichever you like. If you are or consider yourself to be African-American, and you are not sure what country to choose, you may choose a country from Sub-Sahara West Africa

PROCESS

In order to properly complete your assignment you may want to access the following websites for some of your information:

Also should you choose to create a powerpoint slide presentation for part of your assignment you may create it on your computer, upload it to this site (Author Stream), and embed it into your wiki. In addition if you choose to make a timeline of your life or any other appropriate information you may create it on this site (CircaVue) and embed it into your wiki as well. And finally if you would like to include any family photos or other information that is visual you may create an online story on this site (Show Beyond) and embed your story into your wiki.

When doing your research you will find that a Primary Source is generally the best way to obtain the information you are seeking. Please consider the following questions when speaking with a family member:

What city, town, or village is my family originally from?
Do I still have relatives living there?
Are any of my relatives in a position of power or other important position in the city, town, or village?
Why and how did we get to this country?
What are some of the things my family does in there that are part of our culture?
What is one thing that I do not know and would not know if I did not ask you?
Can you show me any pictures of my origin?
Is it possible to contact any of my relatives that still live there?

CONCLUSION

It is my hope that you have learned efficient and effective methods of doing research. Also perhaps you will learn some things about your heritage that you may not have known or things you may not have known about your country of origin. You can share this tree with other members of your family that have internet access, and ask them to help you build it. Also now is a good time to consider building your own biography at this site Dandelife. The best part about all the tools you will have used is that most of them are internet based and allow you to share your findings and information with appropriate persons.
